Objectcode

Description (brief)
bag of diagonal plaited strokes of fibre, trimmed with a fringe of red textile. The fringe ends in a strap. These plaited bags were still made on the Kebar plain (Bird's Head area) in the 1980s. They were used - among other things - for keeping tobacco. The carrying string is made from 'kain sarong' (cloth with a block pattern) or 'cawat' (red cloth, also used to cover the genital area). The string is plaited into the sides of the bag to strengthen it.
