Rebels of the Forgotten World is filmed in the tropical forests of West Papua, in the western half of the island of New Guinea. It looks at the armed tribal opposition by guerrilla leaders of the Free West Papua Movement (OPM) to Indonesia's controversial transmigration project, which involves relocating thousands of peasants from the overpopulated islands of Java and Bali to West Papua. Forests Arrows Against the Wind ( English / 53 min. ) Country : Australia Production Co. : Land Beyond Productions Producer/ Director : Tracey Groome Known as 'The Amazon of Asia', West Papua occupies the western half of the largest island in Asia-Pacific region and is home to some of the world's most ancient cultures. But in 1963, when the Dutch colonists finally left, Indonesia seized control of the territory, declared West Papua its 26th province, and launched a controversial transmigration policy to move Indonesians into West Papua. Outlawing cultural individualism, the Indonesian government instead promotes the forced assimilation of indigenous groups to make "one kind of mankind" and ruthlessly suppresses any opposition. The result is that the 70,000 Asmat people who inhabit the world's largest alluvial swampland have had their territory confiscated by the state, while the 200,000 strong Dani people face extinction as the government presses ahead with road development. Fourth part of unedited material of the large American-Dutch expedition led by Matthew Stirling and Le Roux. The original film, 'By Aeroplane to Pygmy Land', is an account of the expedition in 1926.
Contents
Led by Matthew Stirling, ethnologist at the U.S. National Museum (Smithsonian), more then 400 expedition members travelled through the Mamberamo area searching for Papuans. This group consisted of 75 Dutch soldiers, 130 Dayaks, and 210 Malayan prisoners (chain gang). The expedition uses a water plane. The commentary speaks with scorn of the customs of the Papuans, or Pygmies as they are called in the film. The 1926 film production was a collaboration between the American Smithsonian Institution, the Dutch colonial authorities and the Royal Dutch Geographical Society (K.N.A.G.)

Margaret Mead's interpretation in 1939 of the difference between the way how Balinese en Iatmul (Papua New Guinea)-mothers raise their children and the consequences of this for the behavior of the children towards their family and outsiders.
Contents
A series of scenes in which children of the same age in the two cultures respond to the mother attending to another baby, the ear piercing of a younger sibling and the experimental presentation of a doll. Where the Balinese mother handles sibling rivalry by theatrical teasing of her own child through conspicuous attention to other babies; the Iatmul mother, even when nursing a newborn infant, makes every effort to keep her own child from feeling jealous. Observations presented by Margaret Mead.
